Hurricane Melissa Response

[UPDATE: October 29, 2025]

Dear Brentwood Baptist Staffs and Campuses,

Hurricane Melissa has now officially made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane, and we poise now along with others to know how to best pray for and encourage through all that comes next…..

One thing that we are thankful to know is that we partner with those that have been preparing to walk this road out with people on the ground as soon as it is made possible.  One of our partners, Send Relief, has been making ways to do just this. We also know that this storm continues to move and as we have learned before there are other possible weather-related issues that could arise in the days ahead.  We are so blessed to know and trust the work of Tennessee Baptist Convention’s Disaster Response as they have their ear to the ground as well, working with a network of crisis relief organizations to communicate and strategically step in as the need arises.  As always, we want to make sure that you are prepared to answer questions that come your way, when crisis emerge.

Two key questions are:

What is the church doing?

  • We partner well…..There are organizations that have the ability and infrastructure to walk into the immediate aftermath of trauma.  We always want to take their lead but be willing to respond with urgency and care when/if the right time comes.
  • We steward well…..As people give to our Disaster Relief Fund, we have the ability to respond with our resources when/if it is needed.  Sometimes this need happens first.
  • We pray diligently….. We pray for the people experiencing trauma in all its forms. We pray for individuals and organizations responding to reflect God’s love in the midst of meeting an abundance of needs, and most importantly we pray for the hope of Christ to be made known even in the hardest of circumstances.

Lord let the right people be in the right place at the right time to be your LIGHT in the midst of darkness.

What can I do?

  • You can pray.
  • You can give.
  • You can serve when the opportunities are made known. If you would like to join our Crisis Response Team reach out to [email protected] to get added to our list.
  • You can reflect the hope of Christ even amid unknowns.
